Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday once again asserted that he is no longer party’s president while stressing that Congress should appoint a new president without a delay.

Speaking to media in the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, as quoted by ANI said, ‘Party should decide on the new president quickly without further delay, I’m nowhere in this process. I have already submitted my resignation and I am no longer the party president. CWC should convene a meeting at the earliest and decide’.

Rahul Gandhi’s latest remarks come days after the Chief Ministers of all Congress-ruled state met him and urged him to continue as party Chief. Revealing the details about the meeting, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy had earlier said that he told Rahul Gandhi that Congress cannot function without him.

‘After Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi can only lead the party’, Puducherry Chief Minister said. He added during the meeting, Rahul Gandhi was requested to continue as party President, however, he remained quiet throughout the meeting.

Last week, Mass resignation hit the Congress with Leaders stepping down from the post as a mark of respect to Rahul Gandhi. Leaders gave free hands to Rahul Gandhi to make organization changes in the party and to continue as Congress President.

Over 140 Leaders step down till now giving a free hand to Rahul Gandhi to make organization changes.

In the National polls that concluded on May 23, the Congress put a flop show and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi, soon after the poll outcome, had on May 25 offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting.

Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed and don’t want to continue as party president.
