Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has been tasked by the party to check Karnataka crisis, reached the state on Monday evening. Ghulam Nabi Azad held a meeting with Congress State Leaders and took stock of the situation.

The meeting was attended by Congress Legislative party Leader SG Siddaramaiah, Dinesh Gundu Rao, KC Venugopal, Mallikarjun Kharge, Zameer Ahmed and Eshwar Khandre were present in the meeting.

Speaking to media after the Congress meeting, Ghulam Nabi Azad slammed the Centre ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for toppling the Congress-JD(S) Government in the state. He slammed the saffron party and alleged the party is using Governor’s office for toppling the state governments.

‘The Union Government is using the office of Governor for political gains. ‘State after state opposition governments is being toppled. From Arunachal Pradesh to Karnataka, Governor takes the side of rebels to help them come out of Congress’, said Ghulam Nabi Azad while appealing the nation to rise to save the democracy.

Further slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party, Azad added, ‘Everyone is anguished the way BJP is conducting at the national level and governors at the state level are conducting themselves.

In the meantime, Bharatiya Janata Party has given a call to protest outside the Vidhan Sabha

While earlier on Monday, Congress Legislative Party meeting held in Bangalore. Speaking to media earlier in the day, SG Siddaramaiah said that they have decided to file a petition before Assembly Speaker to disqualify all the rebels and request him to not accept the resignation.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday when 11 MLAs from Congress–JD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation.

With the resignation of 11 MLAs of Congress-JDS and 2 Independent MLAs, the coalition government reduced to a minority with 104 MLAs which is 9 less than the required figures. All the rebel MLAs who are currently in Mumbai slammed Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. However, they junked reports of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
