After the appointment of Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Ashok Gehlot for Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh is the only state which is yet to get its Chief Minister. Main Contenders for the top post in the state Bhupesh Baghel, TS Singh Deo and Charan Das Mahant had reportedly had a meeting with Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Friday.

While Bhupesh Baghel and TS Singh Deo are considered to be front-runners, Tamradhwaj Sahu is being considered as the dark horse.

The Congress on Tuesday dethroned the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and registered a resounding victory bagging 2/3rd seats in Chhattisgarh Polls. Congress won 68 seats, while BJP was reduced to just 15 days while Jogi-BSP alliance secured 7 seats in recently concluded state assembly polls.

The Congress on Wednesday appointed Mallikarjun Kharge appointed as the state observer to seek the feedback and inputs of newly elected MLAs in the state. Mallikarjun Kharge told media on Friday that Rahul Gandhi will decide the Chief Minister of the state and decision will be taken tomorrow.

Kharge and PL Punia, state Congress in-charge also met Rahul Gandhi on Thursday following which both TS Singh Deo and Bhuepsh Bhagel were called by Party National President on Friday to Delhi.

TS Singh Deo, one of the frontrunners for the top post said as quoted by ANI, ‘I want that Congress deliver the priorities it has set for Chhattisgarh as soon as possible. Rahul Gandhi ji had assured that loans will be waived off within 10 days of the formation of the govt‘.

While Bhupesh Baghel, Congress State President and one of the frontrunners for the top post in the state where Congress has come back to power after 15 years said, ‘We have given the authority to the High Command to decide the name (of the CM), whatever they decide, we’ll go by it‘.

While Congress picks Kamal Nath and Ashok Gehlot for the top post in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan respectively. Moreover, Congress has also appointed Sachin Pilot as a deputy to Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan.

The Congress in recently concluded assembly elections 2018 registered a resounding victory in the heartland states.
