If Exit Polls to be believed, Indian National Congress has a whopping chance to unseat Raman Singh led Bhartiya Janta Party government in Chhattisgarh. Exit Polls conducted by many TV Channels predicted contest going to wire with some projecting that Raman Singh is heading towards its fourth consecutive term in the state while few predict a comeback in the state for Congress.

The 90 assembly seat state went to polls in two rounds on November 12 and 20. The Campaign for the Bhartiya Janta Party was led by incumbent Chief Minister Raman Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior leaders. Congress campaign in the state was spearheaded by its National President Rahul Gandhi. It is an open secret that Raman Singh would be the Chief Minister if BJP fighting against anti-incumbency seeks another term in the state. But Who will be the Congress Chief Minister face if the grand old party makes it to the Chhattisgarh assembly this year?

The Congress following its long tradition chooses not to announce the Chief Ministerial Candidate.

We tried to find out who from Chhattisgarh Congress can be given the responsibility to serve as a Chief Minister if they party make a comeback in the state.

Bhupesh Bhagel 

Bhupesh Baghel (57) is the current President of Chhattisgarh Congress and has led his party’s attack on Raman Singh led Government. A former minister and a sitting legislator, Baghel is seen as a big contender for the chief minister’s post in case his party wins Chhattisgarh.

Baghel four-time legislator from Patan seat started his political career from Youth Congress and has been a Minister in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Government. He was also the State Coordinator for 2013 assembly election.

Ravindra Choubey

Ravindra Choubey is the among the senior most leaders in Chhattisgarh. He has been in state assembly six-time in a row from Saja Vidhansabha. Ravindra Choubey has been pitched by the party from the seat in 2018 Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections. Being one of the experienced faces, Choubey has a bring chance to lead his party’s government.

He was Minister of State in Madhya Pradesh Govt., Cabinet Minister in both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Government. He was the leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh legislative assembly. He is known as an excellent orator and has been awarded best Legislator and best Minister in both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Another leader that Congress may give chance to is TS Singh Deo

Popularly known as T S ‘Baba’, he is the current Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh legislative assembly. He has won 2 elections from Ambikapur Vidhansabha and was the richest candidate in Chhattisgarh in previous assembly election of 2013. He hails from Royal family of Sarguja

Though it will be interesting to see if Congress would able to unseat the incumbent Raman Singh government in the state.

The counting of votes will take place on December 11 along with other state assembly elections.
