A top White House aide has on Saturday, said that the United States President Donald Trump is “absolutely” willing to shut the US government, if it fails to fund for a border wall between the two nations – US and Mexico.
During the oval office meeting last week, the democrats declined to fund for border wall, and thus, Trump has warned them over shutting down the government and that he would be “proud” to do so, said White House.
According to news reports, senior advisor of White House, Stephen Miller said, “We will do whatever is necessary to build the border wall to stop this ongoing crisis of immigration.” When asked if this statement aimed direct at shutting down of the US government, Miller replied: “If it comes to it, absolutely.”
The statement over the issue comes after the oval office meeting between Trump and Nancy Pelosi, democratic leader in the house of representatives and Chuck Schumer, senate. When Pelosi and Schumer rejected Trump’s proposal, Trump angrily said he would be proud to shut down the government, if democrats fails to fund the border wall between US-Mexico.
Trump said, “I will be the one to shut [the government] down,” further adding, “I’m proud to shut down the government for border security.”
Trump has threatened to shut government that if the democrats does not provide $5 billion funding to the construction of border wall on US-Mexico. As a part of a bipartisan senate bill, Pelosi and Schumer has offered $1.6 billion for the construction.
According to news reports, Miller said, “At stake is the question of whether or not the United States remains a sovereign country.” Miller further said, “Whether or not we can establish and enforce rules for entrance into our country. The Democratic Party has a simple choice, they can either choose to fight for America’s working class or to promote illegal immigration. You can’t do both.”
Meanwhile, Schumer said, “If the president wants to debate the wall next year he can. I don’t think he’ll get it, but I don’t think he should use innocent workers as hostages for his temper tantrum to sort of throw a bone to his base.”
