The US House of Representatives has on Thursday passed a resolution to put an end to military support for Saudi Arabia-led civil war in Yemen which received votings 247-175 in favour.

According to ANI news reports, this development is considered to be the first time since the War Powers Act was passed in 1973, the law which was used by both chambers of the US Congress to pass a resolution.

This development also could be seen as the results of several year-long efforts pushed by the US Senators’ fury over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi consulate of Istanbul last year on October 2.

The resolution for pulling US military forces in or “affecting” Yemen civil war has gained considerable momentum following Khashoggi’s killing.

The White House also had issued a statement to threaten to veto the resolution and asserted that it has raised “serious constitutional concerns” and was based over an “erroneous premise”, according to news reports.

Last week, US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has told the House foreign affairs committee: “I hope everyone who cares about the people of Yemen understands that the legislation, in the past, did not remotely benefit them. Indeed, it will work to their detriment.”
