Theresa-May-Brexit

United Kingdom lawmakers have on Monday voted down all four possible alternatives to Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit agreement with the European Union (EU), after dismissing thrice time the deal tabled in the parliament.

According to ANI news reports, while the vote session continued in the parliament on Monday, the lawmakers dismissed all proposed four alternatives options for Brexit deal, including a plan to hold a second referendum, closing Brexit in order to prevent a no-deal Brexit departure from the bloc and retaining closer economic relations after departure from the bloc.

The option proposed for the second referendum garnered most of the votes in favour – 280 – but was defeated by 292 votes against.

The second option proposed to stay in the permanent customs union with the bloc gets rejected by 276 to 273 votes.

May’s deal, so-called divorce agreement, was thrice rejected in the UK parliament by 58 votes on March 29, with the bloc warning that no-deal Brexit was likely the only “scenario”.

Britain is scheduled to leave the EU on April 12, unless the UK parliament passes the prime minister’s Brexit agreement or the government able to secure a longer Brexit extension.

Brexit minister, secretary Stephen Barclay told Al-Jazeera news agency the government would resume to seek support for any “credible” plan for Britain’s departure from the bloc.

He was quoted as saying, “This house has continuously rejected leaving without a deal just as it has rejected not leaving at all.”

He added, “Therefore the only option is to find a way through which allows the UK to leave with a deal.”
