Thailand’s opposition party, Pheu Thai party, has said on Wednesday that it has formed an alliance, a “democratic front”, consisting of six other parties after a disputed election, claiming that the opposition alliance has won majority votes in the lower house of parliament and has rights to form a government.

According to Reuters news reports, the opposition coalition, however, would likely fall short election a prime minister candidate, which will require combined voting with the upper house of parliament, which the pro-junta party linked to the military has authority to entirely appoint.

The vote results have indicated the pro-junta Palang Pracharat Party would have held a majority of votes to destine its leader Prayuth Chan-ocha as prime minister of the country.

However, a deadlocked could be seen as the opposition alliance hold the majority in the lower house of representatives.

Sudarat Keyuraphan, Pheu Thai Party’s prime ministerial candidate, told a news conference along with six parties, the opposition alliance would able to win some 225 lower house seats.

Sudarat told reporters, “Parties in the democratic front gained the most trust from the people. Although right now numbers are still moving, we’re certain we will have at least 255 seats among ourselves.”

“We declare that the democratic front who opposes military rule commands the majority in the House.”

The pro-junta party which claimed to have 97 lower house seats, has said have rights to form a government as it was leading in the popular votes.
