Caracas, July 3: Embattled  Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has on Tuesday said he was committed to holding dialogues with his opposition leader Juan Guaido to resolve the political crisis, shortly after the opposition chief said there would never be any good time to negotiate with “dictatorship”.

Both Maduro and Guaido had sent their representatives in May to Oslo to discuss for what the Norwegian government had encouraged but however, they failed to reach a common deal.

However, people having knowledge of the matter, on Saturday, told Reuters talks would resume this week.

But on Tuesday, the opposition leader said he had received “no official statement when we would attend a new round” of talks.

Visiting the Guaido-controlled National Assembly legislature – headed by the president, Guaido told reporters, “It is never going to be a good moment to mediate … with kidnappers, human rights violators, and a dictatorship.”

Moreover, few details about the next round of negotiations have been released in Oslo between both leaders’ representatives.

Last month, Maduro has said the second round of negotiations has been conducted with the opposition in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, noting secret dialogues have been underway for around a couple of months.

Maduro was quoted by his press service as saying, “[On] May 29, the second day of dialogue with the opposition ended in Norway. Minister [for Communication and Information] Jorge Rodriguez, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza and [Miranda state] Governor Hector Rodriguez were present there.”

Maduro said, ” I want a peace agreement for Venezuela. I ask for support from the country, Chavism and the motherland … Our path is a dialogue, respect for the constitution, peace, democracy, development and problem-solving.”

The Norwegian government has stated the parties have demonstrated their willingness to move towards finding for “an agreed-upon and constitutional solution” for Venezuela, which is facing an economic and political crisis.

Oslo urged them to “show their utmost caution in their comments and statements regarding the process”.
