Budapest, August 27: India’s external affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday paid an official visit to Hungary and met with his counterpart Peter Szijjarto in Budapest. The EAM has embarked on an official two-day visit on August 25.

In a tweet, Jaishankar wrote: “Happy to be back in Budapest. Good memories, great future. Thank FM Péter Szijjártó for a very positive and productive meeting. Look forward to developing ties with Hungary and Visegrad Group. Will work closely on bilateral cooperation and in the multilateral arena.”

Following his “positive” meeting with the Hungarian foreign minister, both leaders inked a cultural exchange programme.

Jaishankar, at the invitation extended by Szijjarto, also attended the Hungarian Ambassadors’ Conference. He said, “An engaging interaction on the state of the world,” following the conference, according to ANI news reports.

He said, “Privileged to address the Hungarian Ambassadors’ Conference at the invitation of FM Péter Szijjártó. An engaging interaction on the state of the world.”

The Indian EAM further exchanges his views on the bilateral economic relations and cooperation with the Mihaly Varga, the Hungarian finance minister and deputy prime minister, on Monday.

In a tweet, Jaishankar said: “Thank Finance Minister & Dy PM Mihály Varga for receiving me. Good exchange of views on bilateral economic cooperation.”

He had also inaugurated a photo exhibition on Hungary-India relations at the Indian Embassy situated in Budapest, celebrating the 70th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic relations.
