Bangkok, August 1: Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar on Thursday held meetings with Japanese foreign minister Taro Kono and Federica Mogherini, the European Union (EU) high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, individually in Bangkok on the sidelines of the ASEAN 2019 summit.

According to ANI news reports, Jaishankar praised Mogherini’s “personal contribution” to the relationship between two nations and further making efforts to bolster India-EU ties.

In a tweet, he tweeted: “Carrying on from the Osaka #G20 meeting. Good exchange of views with Japanese FM @konotaromp.”

He also stated the meeting with Kono had a “good exchange of views” towards strengthening the India-Japan relations.

In another tweet, the MEA said, “Pleasure to meet a foreign minister with such warm sentiments for India. Thank you @teddyboylocsin.”

Jaishankar met with his New Zealand and Thailand’s counterpart individually on Thursday during his visit to Bangkok to attend some ministerial summits and discussed key issues, including maritime cooperation and Indo-Pacific partnership.

Jaishankar arrived in the Thailand capital, Bangkok, to participate in numbers of key summits, including the 9th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting,  the 10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum, and ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting.

He also held discussions related to issues on Indo-Pacific area with Winston Peters, the foreign minister of New Zealand.
