On the 28th of May, 2018, the People’s Republic of China, and the African country of Burkina Faso re-consolidated their political relations by arranging the meeting between Alpha Barry, the Foreign Minister of Burkina Faso, and Wang Yang, the chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing. During this conference, the two countries united over the same ideals and principles which Wang commented should be followed by every other country in the world.

A week ago, Burkina Faso’s government had decided to recognize One-China and cut off all their allied ties with the island of Taiwan. This decision invariably pleased the Chinese government who had now finally found another ally in Africa who was willing to work with the consensus of the international community. Wang also asked Alpha Barry to convey President Xi Jinping’s regards to President Roch Marc Christian Kabore, who was more than supportive of improving the Sino-African relations.

On behalf of the Chinese government, Wang Yang announced that the country was ready to improve bilateral ties with Burkina Faso, and broaden other prospects of cooperation so that Burkina Faso could officially join, and contribute and revel in the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which will be held in September. Alpha Barry agreed to Wang’s decisions and conveyed President Kabore’s greetings to President Xi, stating that the reinstating of the bilateral ties between the two countries confirmed to the historical trend, and is expected to benefit not only the Burkinabe people but also other African countries. Barry also announced that Burkina Faso was more than happy to abide by the one-China policy, and their decision to not acknowledge Taiwan as a sovereign entity remained undeterred.
