Islamabad, August 5: Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and opposition party chief Shehbaz Sharif called for an urgent meeting, on Monday, of the Pakistan parliamentary leaders to hold discussion over the ongoing situation, terming India’s decision on scrapping Article 370 as “unacceptable”.

Sharif was quoted by Geo News as saying, “This is a matter of Pakistan’s national interest and the entire nation is united on this front.”

Sharif also claimed the move taken by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government was an “act of treason” against a resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Bilawal Zardari, the chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party, also urged President Arif Alvi to call a joint session of parliament immediately in this regard.

Soon after India announced its decision, Pakistan special assistance to Prime Minister Imran Khan on information and broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan said it will continue to extend diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris.

In a tweet, Awan was quoted by information ministry as saying, “Pakistan will continue its diplomatic, moral and political support in full force till the achievement of the independence of Kashmiris in the light of the UN security council resolutions.”

He added, “India’s paperwork rejects. India’s ignorant efforts have not changed the ground realities; this process of India has burned Kashmir’s freedom of movement. This movement of India has highlighted the Kashmir problem in the world.”

Earlier the day, he said, “The killing of Kashmiris is a test of a civilized world. India cannot crush the Kashmiris’ democratic right to oppose the oppression. Along with Kashmiris, the international community must prove its commitment to democracy.”
