Chainfire

Two years back, Chinese company CCMT bought SuperSU from Chainfire. This move produce a lot of chatter and also in some cases negative emotions, in the community of Android enthusiast users. Now Chainfire has finally announced its retirement from working on SuperSU. The information was given to the users through its Google+ page. Now it will be acting as only an adviser until February 24th when his contract fully expires. He also said that he will no longer be working on SuperSU in any capacity once his contract ends. He also says that his root applications may be affected in time.

Chainfire also assures users that the people that have SuperSU now have their hearts in the right place. He also said that he has been conducting full code reviews as development went along. This move marks the end of Chainfire’s five and a half year long tenure with SuperSU. It was the first one to release a no-strings-attached root module for Android. This module includes simply a flash and go zip installation.

Whats next for Chainfire:

According to Chainfire leaving SuperSU will free him to work on the kind of big projects he had to pass on previously. He also intends to shift his focus. Also it does not means that he is going to leave mobile development behind. He launched firmware.mobi earlier this month. This was released as an excuse to mess around with Python. He would also like to use some of his newfound freedom to experiment with Swift and Kotlin as well.
