It is worth noted that the Central Government on Wednesday refused to give its approval for changing the name of West Bengal to ‘Bangla’ – a demand echoed by the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Speaking in the Upper House of Parliament, Minister of State Home Nityanand Rai denied that Government has cleared the name ‘Bangla’ for West Bengal as proposed by West Bengal Government. The government said that the Constitutional amendment is needed to change the name of a state.
