External affairs minister and seven-time parliamentarian, Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said that she will not contest the Lok Sabha Elections approaching next year citing her health issues, but left it to the party to take a final call. BJP Senior Leader, a seven-time MP and serving her second term as an MP in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha, has won the seat in 2014 with a heavy margin of 4 lakh votes.

Swaraj is the second women to hold the foreign affairs portfolio after the former PM Indira Gandhi. She became the youngest cabinet minister in Haryana Government at the age of 25. She has also served as a Leader of Opposition in 15th Lok Sabha.

“It is the party who will take the final call, but I have made up my mind not to contest the next elections,” Swaraj was quoted as saying by a news agency. She was speaking to reporters in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the assembly polls later this month.

Swaraj went a Kidney transplant at AIIMS, New Delhi in 2016.
