For the upcoming by-polls to two seats of Rajya Sabha, Bhartiya Janta Party on Thursday announced its candidates. By-polls for the Upper House are slated for one seat each from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

BJP has fielded its spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi from Uttar Pradesh seat while former Lok Sabha MP Satish Dubey will contest for the Bihar seat in the Upper House.

Uttar Pradesh’s seat fell vacant due to the untimely demise of former Union Finance minister and BJP leader, Arun Jaitley. Bihar seat was vacated by the death of lawyer Ram Jethmalani. He was a Rajya Sabha member from the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Important Dates-

  • Both the seats will go for by-polls on October 16.
  • Notification regarding the elections will be issued on September 27. The nomination procedure will start from the same day.
  • Counting of votes will be done on the election day only, i.e. October 16 at 5.00 pm

TIW’s Take-

It is highly likely that the saffron party will secure an easy victory on both the seats as it enjoys a greater majority than any other party. Also, BJP has a good support for its allies like JD(U) and LJP in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
