The Rajasthan Assembly elections are slated for December 7. With less than a week left for Polling, both the major parties – Bhartiya Janta Party and Congress – are leaving no stone unturned in a bid to defeat their counterparts by forging alliances, fielding key leaders, attacking leaders with accusations, among others.

In a row, Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said that the Bhartiya Janta Party governments at the Centre and Rajasthan failed to deliver the pre-poll promises that they made to the people.

According to former Finance Minister Chidambaram, five years ago, when the people in the state voted in the last Assembly election, they were in the backdrop of Narendra Modi and his catchy slogans and attractive promises.

Linking the coming of Vasundhara Raje to power with the rise of Modi, the senior Congress leader said: “Neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje delivered on the promises made to the people.

The government could not fulfill the promise of double-digit economic growth. It could not create jobs, increase savings of the people, boost capital investment and increase exports, Chidambaram said at a press conference.

Chidambaram attacked the Bhartiya Janta Party’s self-proclaimed masterstroke and said ‘demonetization and the ill-conceived Goods and Services Tax (GST) destroyed millions of jobs, pushed the small traders into debts’.

He said the situation is different in Rajasthan. Crime has increased, while the conviction rate has seen a drop. Standard of education, female-literacy rate, health parameters are equally bad in the state, he added.

The counting in the state is slated for December 11 along with other four state assembly elections.
