The BJP has announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming December 7 Rajasthan assembly elections on Sunday. Current Chief Ministerof the state, Vasundhara Raje will contest from her home turf Jhalrapatan from where she has been contesting elections since 2003.

Senior party leader JP Nadda had announced the names after a meeting of the BJP central election committee attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amir Shah, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and other top leaders.

Union minister JP Nadda while addressing the press coefrence said that the party was issuing a list of 131 candidates including 12 women, 32 youth, 17 SC and 19 STs. 85 sitting MLAs have been given another chance this year. Mr Nadda further said that he party has fielded 25 new faces.

“Party candidates for all the seats were discussed in the meeting. Names of other nominees will be announced soon,” the union minister told reporters.

The list however missed some names of sitting legislators like Surendra Goyal. Some lawmaker have been shifted to a new constituency, for eg  Kailash Meghwal, the speaker in the outgoing Rajasthan assembly has been shifted from Shahpura in Bhilwara district to Pilani in Jhunjhunu district.

The party has also fielded its Lok Sabha memeber Sona Ram Choudhary. From Barmer. Earlier, Manvendra Singh had represented this constituency from the party. However, he has joined Congress in September this year.

The assembly elections in Rajasthan will be held on December 7.
