Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking help from the central government in line with the Cyclone Fani that affected the state of Odisha and left the state with the massive scale destruction.

The chief minister in his letter sought the direction of the prime minister to sanction 5 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin special houses in the 14 districts of Odisha that have been affected by the Cyclone Fani.

He also requested for the waiver of Permanent Waitlist (PWL) criteria for the particular allocation and also considered a center state fund sharing pattern of 90:10 as a special case.

The state government also demanded funds of rupees 7,000 crores from the central government for the construction of disaster resilient houses in the cyclone-prone areas of Odisha.

CM Patnaik in his letter wrote that “according to the preliminary estimation about 5 lakh houses have been completely substantial damage across 14 districts were the major loss occurring in Puri district where the cyclone made the landing. While the people of this worst affected areas have gone through immense hardships and the loss of shelter has been a devastating experience for the cyclone-affected.”

He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring the support to the Odisha after the cyclone Fani hit the state and left thousands of people homeless. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his aerial visit to do a survey of the cyclone-affected areas in the busy schedule of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

The Cyclone Fani made the landfall in Puri district on May 3 and left the trail of destruction in the coastal areas killing approximately 64 people and leaving thousands of people homeless with immense destruction of property throughout the state.
