The unemployed Kanhayiya Kumar whom the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has fielded form Begusarai, has declared the assets worth ₹8.5 lakhs as his annual income while filing the affidavit for the nomination of the candidate from Bihar‘s Begusarai. Kanhaiya Kumar is the most famous student leader of India.

In his affidavit, Kumar has mentioned himself as an unemployed student. He earns his living by doing some freelance writing and as a guest lecturer in the universities. Hos major source of income is his book “Bihar to Tihar.” The affidavit claimed that he had ₹24,000 in hand in the form of cash and the total savings in his bank accounts to ₹3,57,848. He has an immovable asset that is his ancestral property. He has a house in Bihar’s Begusarai that is valued at ₹2 lakh. The family owns no agricultural land. His father is a farmer and his mother is an Anganwadi worker.

The affidavit mentions five cases against him that made him famous overnight three years ago when he was arrested on the charges of sedition. In February 2016, Former JNU students’ Union chief, Kanhaiya Kumar has arrested along with Umar Khalid an Anirban Bhattacharya on the charges of sedition. The students were held against the alleged anti-national slogans at an event of the Parliament attacker, Afzal Guru.

The sedition case against Kanhaiya Kumar triggered student protests across the country. Now he is a member of CPIM and became a left candidate from his hometown.

RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav has a stronghold on Begusarai and has fielded Tanveer Hassan from Begusarai. BJP has fielded Union minister Giriraj Singh.

The Lok Sabha Elections will be held in Begusarai on April 29 in phase four. Election results will be announced on May 23.
