Congress President Rahul Gandhi along with sister Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday filed his nominations from Kerela’s Wayanad. Apart from Priyanka, Congress President was accompanied by other senior leaders including KC Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik, among others.

Congress President submitted his nominations papers for his seat second before the district collectorate AR Ajayakumar.

On the occasion, heavy security cover was in place outside the District Magistrate Office in the Wayanad, Kerela.

Gandhi along with Priyanka reached Wayanad by a special helicopter and held a 2km long Road Show after filing nomination papers.

Speaking to the media after the roadshow, Congress President said, ‘I have come to Kerala to send a message that India is one, be it North, South, East or West. My aim is to send a message, there is a feeling in South India that the way Centre, Modi ji and RSS are working its like an assault on culture and languages in South’.

He added that ‘ understand that my brothers and sisters in CPM will now speak against me and attack me, but I am not going to say a word against the CPM in my entire campaign’.

It is noteworthy that Congress President move to contest from Wayanad seat has irked the left. Slamming the Congress President Prakash KaratCPI(M) ex-General Secretary said ‘Decision of Congress to field Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad shows their priority now is to fight against Left in Kerala’.

The Congress announced last weekend that its president would contest from Wayanad in addition to the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party has named Shri Thushar Vellappally, President of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena against Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad Seat who had on Wednesday filed his nominations.

However, the decision to contest from South State is seen as a Congress attempt to expand its voter base in the Kerela which has 20 Lok Sabha Seats.

Kerela will go to polls on April 23 in a single round. The Nominations has already started and will continue till April 4, 3 PM.
