In his Bail Plea which was filed on Tuesday, Yadav cited his age, deteriorating health, and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as grounds for seeking bail before the Top Court.
Yadav in his bail plea also added that as RJD National President he is required to make preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. He said he needs to decide upon the poll candidates and formulate a strategy for the polls and his signature will be required to grant election symbols to candidates among other duties.
RJD Chief is currently lodged in a paying ward of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi. He is serving sentences in connection to the cases of multi-crore Fodder Scam.
RJD Supremo moved to Supreme Court after Jharkhand High Court on January 10 last month declined to give any relief and rejected his Bail Petition.

His Party’s alliance with Congress, RLSP and other parties have not announced any seat-sharing terms and it is expected that it will only be announced once RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav would be out.
Yadav through counsel Kapil Sibal on December 11 had appealed for bail on the health ground for a first time before Jharkhand High Court which had later in January his plea.
The December 11 petition by him stated that Lalu Prasad Yadav is 71 years old and is suffering from diabetes, blood pressure and other ailments. It further mentioned that he got bail in one of the four fodder scam cases, thereby seeking bail in the rest of the cases.
Lalu was convicted in fodder scam cases involving the unlawful withdrawal of money from Deoghar, Dumka, and Chaibasa. He has been jailed since December last year.
Yadav is facing a fifth case pertaining to the Doranda treasury. The ‘Fodder Scam’, 1996 involves misappropriation of Funds from the treasury of the Bihar Government.
