Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram spoke out on his father’s arrest. Speaking to media on Thursday, he slammed the ruling government of indulging in petty politics of personal vendetta and maligning the image of Congress party and its leaders.

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram was arrested by CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) from his residence on Wednesday evening. Lashing out on the arrest of his father, Karti Chidambaram said that the arrest was done to silence the opposition’s strong voice. He further expressed his viewpoint that the arrest was done to divert the nation’s attention from Article 370.

Karti Chidambaram said that he was also summoned around 20 times but since there was no strong case, he is not under arrest. He labeled the arrest as a “political move” by the BJP government. P Chidambaram has also denied allegations leveled against him in the case. The father-son duo was named by INX co-founders Peter and Indrani Mukerjea.

On his connection with the INX founders, he told that he had never met Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea in his life.

On being asked about the Delhi High Court’s judgment of 20 August, He urged the media persons to read the judgment of Justice RS Garg of the Delhi dated March 23, 2018. On Tuesday, Delhi High court had rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in INX Media corruption case.

In 2007, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered an FIR against alleging Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram gave wrongful clearances to INX media. It was told that INX media was tuned of Rs. 305 crore by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB).

Speaking on his further actions, he told that he will pursue the matter legally and fight the arrest in the court.
