The Expansion of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy led State Cabinet which is slated for June 12 has now been postponed to Friday following the demise of Veteran Actor and Screenwriter Girish Karnad on Monday. The State government has announced three-day state mourning and a day public holiday to mourn the death of the Veteran Screenwriter.

Girish Karnad, 81, passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness.

Earlier it was scheduled for Wednesday and oath taking was slated for 11:30 am Wednesday.

The move to expand cabinet is seen as an attempt to pacify the growing dissent among some of the Lawmakers in the state. Presently, there are three cabinet vacancies which will be filled with 2 from JD-S quota while one from Congress quota.

If Sources to be believed, Congress Leader and a Former Minister Ramalinga Reddy is likely to be inducted in the cabinet again. While two Independent MLAs including – H Nagesh and R Shankar both a part of coalition government likely to be inducted in the Cabinet.

The JD-S and Congress Coalition government in the state is facing threat with many of legislators reportedly upset.

Post poll setback, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and Deputy CM G Parameshwar held rounds of discussions with MLAs and Leaders to keep JD(S)-Congress Coalition Government intact.

The Congress-JD(S) Coalition Government in the state is facing rough patches since it is formed last year. The rough-patches between JD(S)-Congress came to the forefront during a run-up to the national polls in the Karnataka with leaders of both parties accusing each other.

The tussle between the coalition has benefited the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state which swept the polls in the state bagging 25 Lok Sabha Seat. While JD(S)-Congress Coalition which is in power in the state managed to won one seat each.

Congress after Karnataka State Polls last year has extended Support to JD(S) and Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy with an aim to keep BJP out of the power.

The Congress-JD(S) together has 117 MLAs in Karnataka Assembly earlier with Congress 80, JDS 37 and one from BSP, while BJP has 105 in the 224-member Assembly. The halfway mark is 113.
