Taking strong cognizance, the Poll Commission of India issued a show cause notice to BJP Candidate from Begusarai Giriraj Singh for making controversial and communal remarks while addressing a poll gathering on April 24. Apart from the show cause notice against BJP Nominee, an FIR was earlier lodged against him for violating the representation of the people act.

With the Show Cause, the Poll Commission has asked the BJP Minister to furnish a reply explaining why action should not be initiated against him. In a notice served to BJP Leader, the Poll Office gave the reference of the Top Court that bar candidate from using religion and caste for seeking votes. The Poll Office directed the BJP Leader to furnish response within 24 hours.

The Poll Commission prima facie found Singh in violation of Model Code of Conduct.

Bharatiya Janata Party Candidate from Bihar’s Begusarai Giriraj Singh while addressing a poll rally on April 23 said people have to say ‘Vande Mataram’ to get 3-arm land to get buried. He further said he won’t forgive those who would not say ‘Vande Mataram’.

Who don’t say Vande Mataram, can’t worship motherland. My father and grandfather died by banks of Ganga and did not need a grave. But you need three-arm’s-length of land. If you don’t do it, the country will never forgive you’ ‘, Singh said on April 24while addressing a poll rally in GD College.

BJP Candidate Giriraj who had in 2014 won from Nawada has been shifted to Begusarai for mega polls 2019. Singh in a run-up to the national polls 2019 is facing a three-way competition with CPI‘s Kanhaiya Kumar and RJD’s Tanveer Hasan in the fray.

Begusarai to elect a new MP voted on April 29 as a part of Phase-IV.

Earlier, Election Commission had last week filed a case against Giriraj Singh for his remarks on “green flags”. FIR against the union minister was lodged under the Representation of the People Act sections 125 and 153 A, 295A, 171C, 188, 505, 298 of the IPC. The Election Commission alleged that Union Minister hurt the sentiments of a section of the minority group by hurling religious statements.

General Elections 2019 is being held across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. All 40 parliamentary seats of the state will go to polls in all seven phases till May 19.

Phase-V is slated for May 6. Counting of the votes will be held on May 23.
