Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked People of Jasdan after Bhartiya Janta Party registered a victory in Gujarat’s Jasdan Bypolls by a margin of 19,985 votes. The victory in the by-polls is seen as the major relieve for Bhartiya Janta Party who has just lost assembly elections in the Hindi Heartland States, once being a Stronghold for the party.

Congress candidate turned rebel Kunvar Bavaliya won the election in Gujarat last year. But his exit from the Congress had necessitated the by-poll in the Constituency.

The Congress rebel turned BJP candidate Kunvarji Balavliya registered a comfortable victory. Kunvarji Balavliya polled in 90,268 votes, which is 19,985 votes more than his nearest rival Congress nominee Avsar Nakiya who polled in 60,565 votes in his favor.

Polling for the Jasdan assembly seat in Rajkot district, held on December 20, witnessed a voter turnout of 71.27 percent.

I thank the people of Jasdan for blessing the BJP and supporting the party’s development agenda. Congratulations to Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya for the victory,” Modi tweeted after the BJP much needed victory.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani also thanked the people of Jasdan in a tweet. Rupani Tweeted: “Thank you very much Jasdan. This is a victory of sustainable trust people of Gujarat have put in BJP lead Governments at the centre and the state. Congratulations to Shri @kunvarjibavalia & @BJP4Gujarat karyakartas who worked tirelessly to ensure this victory”.

Kunvarji not only retained the seat in Rajkot District but also increased his winning margin this time. Kunvarji Bavalia had won from the Jasdan seat five times in the past as the Congress candidate – in 1995, 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2017. BJP has won Jasdan since only once since 1960, in 2009 By-polls after Bavalia vacated the seat after elected in Lok Sabha.

With this, BJP has increased its tally in the Gujarat Assembly and now have 100 Lawmakers with Congress is with 76 in an assembly of 183 seats.
