Biplab Kumar Deb-led Tripura Government on Friday sacked Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman from State Cabinet for alleged involvement in anti-party activities. All the portfolios held by Barman has been as of now allocated to Chief Minister Deb and his Deputy.

Barman, earlier associated with TMC and Congress, is a BJP MLA from Agartala Assembly Constituency. He held multiple portfolios in Biplab Deb led State Cabinet. He is a four-time MLA who held the Agartala Seat since 1998. He holds a BE Degree from Tripura Engineering College.

He was the minister of PWD (Drinking Water and Sanitation), IT, Science and Technology and also held the portfolio of Health and Family Welfare.

Tripura Government in a statement stated that portfolios held by him have been allocated to CM and his Deputy. Chief Minister Biplab Deb will hold the charge of Health and Family Welfare, Public Works Distribution(DWS) and Industry and Commerce (I&T).

While his Deputy, Jishnu Dev Verma has been given the Charges of Science, Technology, and Environment.

The development came after Barman was accused of involving in anti-parties.

He was recently in the news when he had on May 22 caught a doctor performing an abortion in a government hospital.

The BJP and its partner Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is currently running a coalition government in the state which has a 60-member assembly. BJP-IPFT has 39 Assembly Seats.

After this, Tripura Cabinet will have 8 ministers – creating a vacancy of one. Tripura can have a maximum of 9 members in the State Cabinet including Chief Minister – which is 15% of the total assembly seats.
