Ajit Pawar with Devendra Fadnavis

Rebel Nationalist Congress party MLA Ajit Pawar tendered his resignation from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Tuesday ahead of the crucial floor test in the state’s legislative assembly.

Earlier, Nationalist Congress party chief Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar stunned the party by secretly forming an alliance and a midnight coup with the Bharatiya Janata party which helped BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis return back to power for the time being.

Earlier, Ajit Pawar supported the Bhartiya Janta Party in forming the government in the state. Devendra Fanavis and Ajit Pawar took their oaths and were sworn in as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by the state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan. Followed by which, Pawar was expelled as the legislative party leader of the party on Saturday.

The Supreme Court ordered for floor test on Wednesday before 5 pm, which will prove whether the Fadnavis-Pawar government has the majority or not. If not, then the opposition will be given the chance to form an alliance government.
