The brawl between the West Bengal government and the BJP over the proposed “Rath Yatra” gets murkier as the West Bengal BJP on Saturday filed a caveat in the Supreme Court.

The move was to ensure that it gets a hearing in case the Bengal government moves the SC against the HC verdict on “rath yatra”.

Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh said, “We have filed a caveat in the Supreme Court to ensure that we do not go unheard if the Bengal government decides to move the top court against the order passed by a division bench of the Calcutta High Court.”

Hitting out at the state government, he said, ” It did not want the BJP to conduct the “rath yatra.”  He further added, “We are apprehensive that the government may move the Supreme Court.”

The issue sparked when a single bench on Thursday denied permission to BJP for holding “Rath Yatra” in the wake of Bengal government informing the court that it might cause “communal tension”.

Following this, BJP filed a plea for direction to the state government to grant permission. The HC bench observed that the state cannot be so “unreasonable” that it does not allow another party to hold a rally.

(A caveat is a notice that states that certain actions may not be taken without informing the person who has given the notice.)
