Polling has begun for the Haryana and Maharashtra state. Maharashtra is going for polls for its 288 assembly seats while Haryana will see elections today for its 90 assembly constituency. Counting of votes will take place on October 24.

The voting started at 7 am and it will continue till 6 pm.

Number speaks-

Total Candidates in Electoral race- 4400 candidates
Total Candidates in Haryana- 1169 candidates
Total Candidates in Maharashtra- 3237 candidates

It has been reported that both the states have been put under heavy security to ensure the smooth conduct of elections. In Haryana alone, 40,000 state police personnel and 13,000 paramilitary personnel have been put on duty to oversee the election. Along with them, more than 20,000 Home Guards and Special Police Officers have been deployed for conducting the elections in the state.

According to the sources, the live footage of the elections is being continuously monitored through a live feed at the control room in Chandigarh headquarters.

In Maharashtra state, around 40,000 police personnel have been deployed. The use of drones as part of surveillance measures is also being used. Battalions of CRPF and CAPF have also been deployed in the security arrangement. Fighting for power in the state, Bhartiya Janta Party has joined its hands with Shiv Sena. The saffron party is fighting on 150 seats while its ally Shiv Sena is contesting with 124 candidates. The remaining seats have been left for smaller allies. In opposition, Congress party is contesting the polls in alliance with Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra.

In Haryana, the major competition will be seen among the following political stalwarts.

Election Commission of India announced the dates for the election on September 21. following which Model Code of Conduct kicked in.
