Hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party named General VK Singh as its Candidate from Ghaziabad Lok Sabha Seat, the Samajwadi Party on Friday replaced its previously announced candidate Surendra Kumar Munni with Suresh Bansal.
VK Singh had in 2014 General elections contesting from Ghaziabad seat defeated Congress Raj Babbar with a heavy margin of over 5.60 Lakh votes.

The Samajwadi party who has forged an alliance with BSP now fielded Suresh Bansal who comes from a Vaishya Community. He was BSP MLA in Ghaziabad from 2012-2017, however, he lost his seat in 2017 UP State Polls.
Earlier the party has named three-time former law Surendra Kumar Munni. He has joined SP after quitting Congress in 2017. And was serving as the District President of the party.
This move could be seen as a consequence of the BJP’s decision to field VK Singh for the seat. The move can also be seen after Congress named Dolly Sharma from the seat. Both Sharma and Munni come from Brahmin Community and it could cut into each other’s vote.
Bhartiya Janta Party on Wednesday declared that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest from the Varanasi Parliamentary Seat, while BJP President Amit Shah has replaced Lal Krishna Advani from Gandhi Nagar seat in Gujarat. BJP Leader and Union Miniter JP Nadda while addressing the press announced the candidates on 184 Lok Sabha Seats.
Samajwadi Party in a run-up to the General elections has announced names on 16 seats out of total 37 allotted to them in a poll-pact with BSP. Party has named its Founder Mulayam Singh Yadav from Manipur, Dimple Yadav from Kannauj, among others.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party has also declared its poll tie-up with BSP in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra.
General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had declared schedule for General Elections 2019.
The Counting of votes for the mega battle of ballots will take place on May 23, four days after last round of polling. Polling in 80 Lok Sabha Seats in the state will spread across 7 phases of Polling.
