Welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has launched the election campaigning in Rajasthan on Saturday.

Congress President before reaching Jaipur tweeted, “In preparation for the upcoming state elections in Rajasthan, I will be in Jaipur today, to meet with citizens, Congress party workers and leaders and to address a public meeting at Ramleela Maidan at 4.30 pm.”

Gandhi’s schedule will include meeting party workers and stalwarts from all the districts at Jaipur’s Ramlila ground. After reaching Jaipur, Gandhi will conduct a mega road show covering 13 kilometres on a specially designed bus. The party leaders on bikes have been directed to wear helmets for the three-hour long road show, reported NDTV.

Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan Congress President told PTI, “He is coming here to launch the election campaign of the Congress party tomorrow. Gandhi will lead from the front; he will give the message of victory to the party workers and will tell how we are going to campaign in the next three month.”

General Secretary of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) Pankaj Mehta told News18.com, “Rahul ji will land in Jaipur around 10 am, where he will be welcomed by leaders and workers of the Rajasthan Congress unit. He will then carry out a roadshow through the city of Jaipur. Along the way, he will stop at two of the city’s more famous temples. He will seek the blessings of Lord Ganesh and Govind Devji and then move on to Jaipur’s Ramleela Maidan, where he will address party workers and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates from across the state.”

Gandhi will visit two temples–Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple and at the Govind Devji Temple in Jaipur.

According to The New Indian Express report, Gandhi will also address the issue of fighting within the Rajasthan Congress over the Chief Ministerial candidate in the upcoming Assembly polls. The sources said that Congress supremo will urge Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot and former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot to put up a united front in order to defeat BJP. The loyalists of these two leaders have publically come in support of their respective leader’s name for the CM post, thus portraying a divided front within the party.

Rajasthan is significant for Rahul Gandhi as it was here he was elected as the grand old party’s Vice President. He will be visiting the state first time since his Congress Presidency in December, said Pilot.
