After months-long deliberation over the seat-sharing distribution in Maharashtra, Congress State President Ashok Chavan on Saturday announced that Congress will contest on 24 seats in a poll pact with Sharad Pawar‘s NCP in Maharashtra. While its partner NCP will have its candidates on 20 Lok Sabha Seats.

Maharashtra has a total of 48 Lok Sabha seats. The remaining 4 seats will be shared with small allies including Bahujan Vikas Aghadi on 1 seat, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana on 2 seats, Yuva Swabhimani Paksha on 1 seat. Congress President Ashok Chavan announced the complete seat sharing arrangements in a press Conference today.

Bahujan Vikas Aghadi is front formed by AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen) and BBM(Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh) in Maharashtra. While Swabhimani Shetkari Saghtana (SS) is a farmers union based in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. It was founded by Member of Parliament, Raju Shetti.

The Congress-NCP Alliance has announced to back Swabhimani Shetkari Saghtana (SSS) on Hatkanagale Lok Sabha constituency.

Both NCP and Congress have, however, started rolling out names of Candidates in Maharashtra. NCP so far has announced candidates on 17 seats with Parth Ajit Pawar contesting from Maval Lok Sabha seat, Supriya Sule from Baramati Parliamentary Seat, Sanjay Dina Patil from Mumbai North East, Anand Paranjpe from Thane, Sunil Tatkare from Raigad.

While Congress in a run-up to the General elections 2019 has so far announced candidates on 16 Lok Sabha seats with Priya Dutt from Mumbai North Central, Milind Murli Deora from Mumbai South, Sushil Kumar Shinde from Solapur (SC) among others.

The Congress-NCP Alliance will take on BJPShiv Sena Alliance. Both Shiv Sena and BJP have also started announcing candidates.

In 2014 General Elections, BJP-Shiv Sena led NDA won 41 Lok Sabha Seats. While Congress was reduced to just 6 Parliamentary seats.

General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019. Results for the crucial Lok Sabha Polls will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.

48 Seats of Maharashtra will go to polls in four phases starting from April 11, then on April 18, April 23, and April 29.
