Ending months-long speculations about its political innings, Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Friday joined Bhartiya Janta Party days before the mega battle of ballots. Former Cricketer Joined the BJP in presence of Senior Leaders Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad.
After joining the BJP, Former Indian Opener hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said as quoted by ANI, ‘I am joining this party(BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform’.

Gambhir later met the BJP President Amit Shah.

Speculations about him entering politics where on height ever since he announced his retirement from all formats of the game. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last year sent a congratulatory letter to the former Cricketer after he announced his retirement.
Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir is expected to contest the Lok Sabha Polls 2019 from any of the 7 seats in the national capital.
His entry into politics came days after his opening partner Virendra Sehwag reportedly declined BJP’s offer to contest polls on their ticket. However, Sources claimed that Gambhir has already started reaching out to people. Sources further claimed he has started attending many such meeting including one by Resident Welfare Association.
Gautam Gambhir’s entry into politics is seen as a big boost for the Bhartiya Janta Party in the National Capital where a three-way is expected. BJP in its first list of 184 Candidates has not revealed the name of any candidates for Delhi.
General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019.
Delhi will vote in a single phase on May 12, the sixth phase. Results for the crucial Lok Sabha Polls will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.
