The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the schedule for elections of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) to Telugu States – Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force. Elections will be held on March 22 to fill four vacancies of the legislative council, two graduates’ seats, and one each of local bodies and teachers’ constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. While two graduates and one teacher post in Telangana. The Counting will be held on March 26, four days after voting.

As per the notifications released by the election commission, The following is the poll schedule: Issue of notifications: February 25; last date of making nominations: March 5; scrutiny of nominations: March 6; Last date of withdrawal of candidatures: March 8; date of polling: March 22. Polling will be held from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm. Counting of votes will be taken up on March 26. The polling process will be completed by March 28.

In Telangana, polling will be held for four MLC vacancies. There is one graduate (Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar), two teachers (MedakNizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar and Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam) and one local authority (Hyderabad) constituencies.

The Term of graduates and teachers are slated to end on March 29, 2019. While the term for Local Authority seat is slated to end on May 1, 2019.

In Andhra Pradesh, polling with be held on three MLC Vacancies. There are two graduates (East-west Godavari and Krishna-Guntur), one teacher (Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam). The term of this these three seats are slated to end on March 29.

One vacancy in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council has occurred on October 3, 2018, due to death of sitting member, Dr M.V.V.S. Murthi from Visakhapatnam Local Authorities’ Constituency. The term of Dr M.V.V.S. Murthi is up to and including 11.08.2021.

Earlier in Telangana Legislative Council in January last month, Three members of the Telangana Legislative Council, who switched loyalty to the Congress on the eve of the December 7 assembly elections, were Wednesday disqualified with immediate effect on grounds of defection.
