Indian National Congress on Friday appointed the Cricketer-turned Politician Mohammad Azharuddin as the working president of the Telangana Committee ahead of polls.

The party issued a statement confirming the same. According to a tweet by the Congress @INCSandesh, along with Azharuddin, Dr. BM Vinod Kumar and Jaffer Javed were appointed as vice presidents of Telangana Congress Committee. Meanwhile, eight General secretaries and four secretaries were also appointed.

The Cricketer-turned-politician entered politics in the year 2009 and won Lok Sabha Elections on a Congress ticket from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh in 2009. In 2014, he lost the Lok Sabha polls from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. Azharuddin has his eyes on Secunderabad Parliamentary seat for 2019 Lok Sabha.

The Congress is in the fray to unseat the ruling TRS, which had stormed to power in the first Telangana Assembly elections in 2014. The Congress has joined hands with the TDP and other players to form a ‘People’s Front’

Voting for Telangana Assembly Elections 2018 will be held on December 7 in a single phase. The counting of votes is slated for December 11 with other state elections.
