Former MP and Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar on Saturday moved to Supreme Court against his Conviction in connection to 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots. The Move came after Delhi High court on Friday rejected his plea seeking more time to surrender.

Kumar approaches apex Court on Saturday with an appeal.

The 73-year-old Kumar had approached the Delhi High Court on Friday to seek more time, till January 31, to surrender, saying that he has three children and eight grandchildren and needs to settle matters related to his property.

Earlier this week on Monday, Delhi High Court overturned the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar by a Session Court in 2013 and convicted him for Life Imprisonment. Delhi High Court found Kumar guilty for the killing of five members of a family in Raj Nagar and the torching of a gurdwara in Delhi on November 1, 1984.

Sajjan Kumar also appeared before Patiala House Court in another case related to riots, registered by Central Bureau of Investigation on the recommendation of Nanavati Commission Report. The Court has adjourned the matter till January 22.

Besides Congress‘ Sajjan Kumar, Captain Bhagmal, Girdhari Lal and former Congress councilor Balwan Khokhar have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Delhi High Court on Monday also extends the life imprisonment of other two convicts, Kishan Khokkar and former legislator Mahendra Yadav from 3 years to 10 years.

As per the official records, more than 2700 Sikhs were killed across the nation after the Assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
