ps5 will consume 8 W less than PS4 when in rest mode

Sony has already spilled the beans on its next-generation PlayStation when earlier this year, the company unveiled details about its next-gen console most likely named PlayStation 5. This year has all been about cloud gaming and next-gen consoles as the gaming industry is seeing a revolution. And judging by the announcements and rumours surrounding Google Stadia, Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Project Scarlett, next year is going to be even better, once the next-gen consoles finally arrive. However, Google Stadia will be the first to step in the world of cloud gaming with Stadia set to launch in November. With the year all being about next-gen consoles, Sony has leaked another detail regarding its upcoming console stating that PS5 will be the most eco-friendly console ever.

In a blog post, in an attempt to work towards sustainability goals, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan announced that the next PlayStation will be even more power-efficient than the PS4:

I am also very pleased to announce the next generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W). If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes.

Sony has sold an astounding 100 million PlayStation 4s to date and with PlayStation 5 to launch next year with obviously much more advanced features than the current version, we might expect to see an enormous rise in the number of PS5 owners, once it is launched. And if PS5 does consume 0.5W only when in rest mode which is almost 8 W less than the current versions 8.5W, it turns out to be really big initiative from the company to save energy. Moreover, PS5 is expected to arrive alongside a boosted PS5 Pro.
