Apple and Epic gamesImage Source: iPhone hacks

The legal battle between Apple and Epic Games continue and Microsoft has backing Epic Games.

We all know the issue here. If you don’t then let me tell you. The issue is Apple has pulled out Fortnite from the Apple store because Epic Games violated its policies.

Epic Games feel that Apple is running a monopoly with the 30% take of the purchase made through in-app purchases. They feel that they have done nothing wrong and they have even sued them.

The matter has reached the court now. All the Epic Games’ games are built on Unreal Engine which is also owned by Epic Games. Millions of developers use Epic Games to create indie games, even large scale games, to create VR experiences, etc.

Apple has said it would pull Epic’s access to developer tools on iOS and Mac. This would lead to havoc among many developers according to Microsoft.

Xbox head Phil Spencer tweeted: “Ensuring that Epic has access to the latest Apple technology is the right thing for game developers and gamers.” Microsoft themselves rely on Unreal Engine.

If Apple denies the Epic access on Apple devices, the Unreal Engine wouldn’t support iOS and macOS.

Apple has said, ” We won’t make an exception for Epic because we don’t think it’s right to put their business interests ahead of the guidelines that protect our customers”.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has gone against Apple in recent times.

Apple disallowed Xbox game streaming on iPhones. xCloud is a cloud gaming service by Microsoft which allows you to play games using cloud technology. It is a subscription-based service.

Microsoft said Apple was the only major platform to “deny consumers from cloud gaming and game subscription services”.

Let’s see how things go ahead and who wins this case in court.
