Qualcomm has announced its Quick Charge fast charging technology, which was restricted for wired charging up until now, for wireless charging standard. Qualcomm made the announcement at MWC 2019 saying that Quick Charge technology for wireless charging will help it in speeding up the charging process on wireless pads, given it meets the specific standards. According to Qualcomm, the charging pads powered by Quick Charge will be able to provide speedy electricity in a ‘consistent and safety conscious’ manner.

Xiaomi has already confirmed that the upcoming Mi wireless charging pad will be coming with Qualcomm Quick Charge support.

Wireless charging products in the past have been introduced with the Quick Charge technology, even they have not passed the required Quick Charge compliance process, according to Qualcomm. In response, the company has decided to expand its Quick Charge technology to wireless charging pads. Qualcomm has also expanded the compliance process to ensure interoperability, and that the charging pad manufacturers meet with both Quick Charge and Qi wireless charging standards.

“Wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge will work with the same Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4 and 4+ adapters that millions of users already have at home, work, and elsewhere,” the company explains in its blog. Qualcomm confirms that Xiaomi will be the first company to ship its wireless charging pad with Quick Charge support.

“We are excited to introduce Quick Charge protocol for wireless power in Mi Wireless Charging Pad, complementing our existing line-up of Quick Charge technology-certified wall and battery chargers, and providing our loyal customers the lowest charge times and maximum power efficiency possible across their charging options,” Yanteng Wang, lead of wireless charging, Xiaomi, said.

Wireless charging has been becoming a norm among smartphone manufacturers as it is popularly demanded by smartphone users, and with the Quick Charge support for wireless charging pads, Qualcomm will be able to tap into the market at the right time.
