The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday approved a scholarship scheme which will give a financial assistance upto Rs 20 lakh to Delhi SC students who qualify for admission into Harvard, Oxford and other prestigious foreign universities.

The finical assistance will be given to 100 selected candidates only for pursuing PhD.

Criteria for the scholarship :

The scheme will help meritorious students of the schedule caste whose family annual income is less than Rs 8 lakh.

The candidate should be living at least five in Delhi.

Only one child of the same parent will be eligible to avail the financial assistance under the scheme.

Candidates who are employed can also avail the scheme they have to provide a ‘no objection certificate’.

” The candidate will not be eligible for the financial assistance under the scheme to pursue the master’s or PhD for which he/she has already acquired the qualification from any university either in India or abroad.” the government said in a statement.

The maximum amount one can avail from the scholarship is Rs 20 lakh per, Rs 5 lakh annum upto 4 year for PhD course and upto Rs 10 lakh per annum for the master’s course of two year.

The scheme is given a budget amounting of Rs 5 crore and will be implemented from the financial year 2019-20.

” The scheme will not only change the life of the student but also that of the entire family”, said the minister.
