Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday met Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his residence in the national capital. However, there were no words from both the side about what has been discussed in the meeting.

Congress Stalwart and one of the close aides of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh was a Finance Minister 1991 to 1996 in the Narasimha Rao government. He had served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from the year 1982 to 1985. From 1985 to 1989, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, now knows as NITI Aayog.

He later served as Prime Minister from the year 2004 to 2014 before BJP stormed to the power with a heavy mandate.

However, the meeting between Sitharaman and Singh comes days before she is set to present her first Budget in the Lok Sabha.

Nirmala Sitharaman who is inducted as Union Finance Minister in Modi Cabinet 2.0 will present the First Budget of this Government of July 5. Sitharaman is expected to announce big tax relief for the middle class and salaried people.

Sitharaman had earlier held a series of pre-budget meetings with several stakeholders in a bid to seek feedbacks, and inputs ahead of the Budget Session of the 17th Lok Sabha.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on June 13 held her 3rd Pre- Budget consultations with the stakeholder Groups from Financial Sector and Capital Markets in New Delhi in connection with the forthcoming General Budget 2019-20.
