Redmi R&D Meeting

Redmi, which started off as a series of budget-friendly smartphones from Xiaomi, has now been introduced as an independent sub-brand from the company. After its split off from Xiaomi, Redmi has introduced its first smartphone in the form of Redmi Note 7. The phone managed to garner a lot of attention especially because what the device is offering in the price bracket. The Redmi note 7 comes with a premium glass body design combined with a 48-megapixel primary Samsung GM1 sensor. Redmi is also expected to launch the Note 7 Pro which will come with minor updates compared to Redmi Note 7 including a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Sony IMX586 sensor. Nevertheless, the launch of the Note 7 pro has not yet been confirmed by the company.

Now, Redmi is in talks to launch another device which will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. A few days ago, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had commented on his Weibo channel confirming the possibility of a Redmi smartphone with Snapdragon 855 SoC. Recently, a new post on Weibo by Redmi chief Lu Weibing added to that report that Redmi is indeed looking forward to launching a device with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. Lu Weibing, who has recently joined Xiaomi, posted a picture of the Redmi team at Xiaomi’s R&D facility in Shenzhen discussing the upcoming devices from Redmi and their features.

Weibing, in his post, mentioned two devices–the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the “855 flagship”. This post from Lu Weibing confirms the possibility of Redmi working on a flagship-level smartphone which is a drastic change from the philosophy the company was started with.

The Redmi Note 7 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 coupled with 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB of RAM, depending on the variant. The camera module at the back of device compromises of two sensors: a 48-megapixel with f/1.8 aperture coupled with a 5-megapixel for depth information. the front camera is a 13-megapixel sensor with AI features and portrait mode.

The Redmi Note 7 for India will get a revamped UI with Google Play Store while the rest of the specifications will remain the same. The Redmi Note 7 comes with 6.2-inch Full HD+ display Corning Gorilla Glass protection, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and a 4,000mAh battery.
