Para Teachers are appointed in primary and upper primary schools on the bases of contracts.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday approved the proposal of renewing the contracts of 130 para teachers for ten months on a monthly salary of ₹34,290, who were waiting for their contract renewal since July. The CM Pramod Sawant is also the Education Minister said their ‘salaries have been hiked’.

The appointment of para teachers is effective from June 2019 to March 2020. They were initially appointed in 2006-2007 at a monthly salary of Rs 3,000, which was revised at regular intervals and touched Rs 32,000 in 2018-19. While initially, 500 para teachers were recruited with the launch of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Goa, over the years, their number declined.

Para Teachers are appointed in primary and upper primary schools on the bases of contracts. An official said, “Para teachers want regularisation in service, their appointment cannot be altered from the 10-month contract period.”

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was the speaker of the Goa Assembly before being sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister, after the death of sitting Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. He assumed the Office from 19th March 2019.
