Qualcomm Snapdragon launches a new mid-tier performance oriented chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-core SoC. This chipset is developed based on 14 nm FinFET technology, which is the most energy efficient technology after the 10 nm FinFET process, which is mostly found in the premium tier smartphones.

This specific chipset is the second chipset in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 lineup to use custom Kryo 260 CPU, which offers improved CPU performance over the normal Arm CPU architecture which offers up to 30 percent more processing power compared to Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC.

In terms of camera capability, the chipset offers 14-bit  Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP which is engineered to support and capture of up to 24 mega pixels with zero shutter lag, and offer smooth zoom, fast autofocus and true-to-life colours for improved image quality.

The device also boasts improved X12 model with improved data transfer speeds up to 600 Mbps. The device does support NFC, Qualcomm Quick charge 4.0, USB 3.1 data transfer speeds and up to 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM module and Bluetooth 5.0 dual channel support. In terms of the display support, the device does offer support for the latest 18:9 aspect ratio display up to FHD+ resolution. Even for the gamers, the device offers an improved Adreno 509 GPU with offers up to 30 percent improved performance over its predecessor. This is an outstanding SoC, considering the fact that it offers all the premium features. So, one can expect smartphones powered by this the end of this year.

Here is the official product statement from Qualcomm about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-core solution:

“High-end features in the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 636 mobile platform make this a powerful 600-tier platform, with Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP, Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU built on ARM Cortex technology and Snapdragon X12 LTE modem for up to 600 Mbps downlink speeds. Designed to support advanced photography and enhanced gaming, Snapdragon 636 boasts long battery life and fast LTE speeds for top-tier smartphones and tablet.”
