Recently Google has announced a miniature version of the Android operating system called Android Go, this software is made for the entry level smartphones with very little resources like 1 GB RAM and an entry level processor. As these phones might struggle to run on a fully fledged version of the Android operating system, the lite version should be able to keep up the performance with custom app store from Google. Here are the details on the HMD Global alias Nokia’s Nokia 1 smartphone with Android Go software.

According to the Russian smartphone, news leaker named Murtazin, the Finnish company is working on this entry-level smartphone, which is set to debut in March 2018. In fact, he has also quoted set of specifications, which are in line with the Nokia’s most affordable Android smartphone the Nokia 2.

According to Murtazin, the smartphone will feature a 720p IPS LCD screen paired with 1 GB LPDDR3 RAM and 8 GB onboard flash storage with a dedicated micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB). However, there is no mention of the processor or the screen size of the Nokia 1. Considering the nomenclature, this will be the cheapest Nokia smartphone with the Android operating system and according to tweet, the smartphone is likely to cost RUB 5,990 in Russia, which roughly translates to ₹6,500. He has also given a hint that, even Huawei is working on a smartphone based on Android Go platform.

In terms of actual tech specifications, the smartphone does sound mostly like the Nokia 2. In fact, the phone maker might cut on the aspects like the battery and camera and transform the Nokia 2 into Nokia 1 in no time.

Nokia 2 was globally launched last month in an event held in Delhi. However, the smartphone received a lot of criticism for the ₹6,999 price tag with just a gig of RAM and 8 GB onboard flash storage. The only impressive factor about the Nokia 2 was the battery, the phone came with a massive 4000 mAh Li-ion battery with two days on juice on a single charge. In fact, companies like Xiaomi and 10.or offers smartphones with double the RAM, storage and an improved processor for just ₹4,999 (10.or D and Xiaomi Redmi 5A)

If Nokia plans to make a comeback, then they have to rethink about the strategy that they are applying. Markets like India and China have a lot of mobile manufacturers which offers awesome smartphones at a lower price tag. To tell in one world, cheap smartphones are getting better and better smartphones are getting cheaper. We do not have any official confirmation about the Nokia 1 from HDM Global, let’s wait to see this Nokia 1 and the specifications it offers.
