From last few years, WhatsApp has become an integral part of our lives. In fact, we use everything from sharing our location to video calls to instant messaging. Users have to take a note that, WhatsApp the company owned by Facebook will stop working on the following phones running on the older operating systems.

This has been done for the fact that, the development of this app on all of the older platform requires a lot of resources and considering the fact that the makers of these smartphones are no more launching a new device and this will also hit hard as to implement newer features that require newer hardware. So, focusing on a small set of OSs and devices will give enable the app maker to add newer features in no time.

So, here is the list of the smartphones and operating system that does not support Whatsapp from 1st January 2018:

  • Phones which are running on BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 OS are the first line of victims. Though the BlackBerry users can install an Android APK there is no way that one can use on a phone with QWERTY keypad with a tiny trackpad.
  • Phones running on Windows 8.0 or older operating system. As Microsoft has killed Windows mobile operating system, there is no way to support these older devices. In fact, one can still use WhatsApp on a Windows smartphone running on Windows 10 operating system.
  • The Apple iPhones running on iOS 6 (Apple iPhone 3G) will not be able to use WhatsApp at any cost.
  • However, as a matter of surprise, the smartphone running on Symbian S40 operating system got a year of extension, which means, the users will be able to use WhatsApp on their smartphones up and running till December 31st, 2018.
  • Android smartphones running almost 6-year-old Android OS, the Android Gingerbread. The users with this operating system will support WhatsApp until February 1st, 2020. So, most of the Android users are covered as there are almost no users with a smartphone running on Android Gingerbread or older operating system.
  • Smartphones powered by Sybian S60 can use WhatsApp until June 30, 2017. After that, one might have to upgrade to a newer smartphone with the newer operating system.

So, do you use any of these smartphones with these operating system? Share your views in the comment box regarding the WhatsApp’s decision to end the support?
