Swedish giants Ikea and H&M are opening tech units in Bangalore. To create 1000 employment opportunities.

Bangalore has been India’s own silicon valley for years now. Almost all the tech giants have their head office of operations in Bangalore.

A host of US retailers, including Target, Saks Fifth Avenue, JCPenney and Lowe’s, already have tech centers in the city. Now Ikea and H&M are too planning to follow the same path.

Ikea is a company that sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances, and home accessories. Whereas H&M is a clothing brand as we all know.

Ikea says this Bangalore centre will be a digital hub.

Ikea has 374 stores across 30 countries. Ikea already has a store in Hyderabad and also an online store in Mumbai. Ikea has appointed Lalitha Indrakanti as head of global business services at Ingka Group, the holding company of Ikea. The Ingka group consists of three businesses.

Talking about H&M, they have had retail sales of about $27 billion in 2019. They are said to have tied up with ANSR consulting to launch its operation here.

ANSR if you don’t know, is a consulting firm. It has brought over 60 such centres in India, including the likes of PepsiCo, Wells Fargo, Target, etc. H&M has also been added to that list.

H&M has appointed Jan Karreby, who used to previously run the company’s outsourcing programme as offshore governance manager.

It is a good sign for Bangalore as huge names like Ikea and H&M are opening up tech centres there. This will help in 2000 people getting jobs for themselves. 1000 in each as per the news.
