Swiggy, a food delivery aggregator, and one of the largest foodtech startups in India, has announced the expansion of its services to 500 cities pan India, cited ET.

The unicorn startup Swiggy said that it would expand to 600 cities by December this year. The platform has added around 60,000 new restaurants in the part six months.

“With presence in 500 cities and 75 universities, Swiggy already has the widest reach in the country. We will further expand this to 600 cities and 200 universities by December 2019,” Vivek Sunder, chief operating offer at Swiggy, said.

Swiggy was founded by Sriharsha MajetyNandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini in 2014. The company claims to have over 2 Lakh delivery partners and more than 1 Lakh restaurant partners spread across 200+ Indian cities.

“Swiggy’s vision is to elevate the quality of life of consumers by offering unparalleled convenience. As we work towards enabling this for a billion Indians, expanding to tier-3 and tier-4 cities is a critical step,” Sunder added.

Explaining the strategy of expansion, Sunder further said that the current expansion has enabled over 350 million or one in four Indians to access the food delivery platform in the country.

“Our growing fleet of over 2.1 lakh active delivery partners have more income opportunities due to the scale and offerings of Swiggy,” Sunder said.

Some of the significant players in the foodtech domain includes Zomato, Uber eatsFood Panda, and many more.
